QUOTED IN: Battery storage seen as ‘backbone’ of reliable electric grid but adoption uneven across US

According to a recent article in States Newsroom, “Battery storage is growing in the U.S., with total capacity climbing to 12.7 gigawatts by the end of the second quarter of 2023, according to S&P Global, up 61% from the year before. (The U.S. had about 1,160 gigawatts of total utility-scale electric generation capacity in 2022, according to the federal Energy Information Administration). But adoption is uneven, with Texas and California leading the nation in storage growth, said Jason Burwen, vice president of policy and strategy at GridStor, a Portland, Oregon, company that builds large-scale battery storage projects.”

“Batteries are really helpful for system reliability,” said Jason Burwen.
