Portland Business Journal: Why Goldman Sachs is investing millions in a Portland energy storage startup

An arm of one of the world’s biggest investment banks has set up a major energy storage project developer and operator in Portland.

It’s another sign of the growth prospects for grid-scale energy storage, where the wider region has major battery players in Powin, ESS and Entek, and of Portland’s deep history in energy project development.

GridStor, founded this spring, is backed by Goldman Sachs Asset Management and headed by Chris Taylor, a longtime Portland-based executive in the sector.
