Our Goleta Energy Storage facility provides service to the larger California power system every day, bolstering reliability through moment-to-moment grid stabilization and storing ever more midday solar power for delivery in the evening. Locating our facility in Santa Barbara County also supports the greater build-out of wind and solar power in adjacent regions.
Being sited in Goleta also means our battery storage facility contributes to regional reliability. Santa Barbara communities along the southern California coastline from Point Conception to Lake Casitas draw their power from a single high-voltage transmission line. The region is prone to electricity supply disruptions from wildfires, mudslides, and earthquakes, which is one reason Santa Barbara County also continues to depend on nearby fossil fuel power plants. Goleta Energy Storage is part of the solution to fortifying the region and reducing reliance on fossil fuel generators.

California is on a path to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. That’s why it is also the leader for grid-scale battery storage installations, with more than 6,000 MW online as of November 2023 and a plan to get to more than 13,000 MW by the end of the decade.
Our Goleta Energy Storage facility will operate every day, serving as one of a fleet of energy storage resources that ensure California has clean electricity to rely on, even when the wind isn’t blowing and the sun isn’t shining. Our initiative is helping the state meet its goal of a carbon-free electricity system by storing and utilizing more renewable energy and reducing reliance on polluting energy sources.
